Background:
The prints of US Navy Uniforms shown on this page are from a folio published by
the Department of Naval History. The uniforms depict a variety of naval ranks from
the late-1700s through mid-1900s.
The prints are based on illustrations by the noted
military artist Charles McBarron whose "masterful productions again have captured the
flavor of the times contemporary with the uniforms depicted in each painting".
The appeal of this series is best summarized in the
preface: "Military uniforms have always fascinated most of us. Around
them clings something of the character and stirring history of the service they
represent."
