Background:
These prints are part of the "Familiar" series published by Cassell and Company
in England in the late 1800s. Other volumes in the series focused on Wild Flowers,
Garden Flowers and Wild Birds. The prints shown here beautifully portray a full view
of common trees in their natural setting; the English, French and German names of
the tree is shown at the bottom of the print. "The trees in their stems and
foliage are thoroughly true to nature." (from a review in the Times of London, late
1800s)
