Background:
Published in London from 1834-1849 by Sir Joseph Paxton, the Magazine of Botany
is a predecessor to today's horticultural magazines. The magazine contained
descriptions of flowering plants, as well as advice for the gardener. Each print is
hand colored, and treated with an egg white wash to preserve the color. The prints
shown here are from Volume 11 of the Magazine, published in 1844.
