Background:
These unique prints are from The Universal Herbal, authored by Thomas Green.
Published in the early 1800s, the objective was to "present the Botanist,
Farmer, Gardener, and Country Housekeeper, with a compendium of Botanical, Agricultural,
and Medical Knowledge, collected from the accumulated labours of the most eminent authors,
and hitherto only to be obtained in separate and very voluminous publications".
The style of these hand-colored plates is very reminiscent of those found in Culpepper's Complete Herbal
