Background:
These prints were part of a guide to European Ferns published by
Cassell's in the late 1800s. One of the interesting features of the prints is the
presentation of the Ferns in a natural setting.
Following is part of the introduction to this
series: "There is probably no group of plants which has more numerous or more
enthusiastic admirers than the fern tribe ... their ever-fresh green, and the graceful
outlines of their delicate plume-like fronds, constitute strong claims to
admiration."
