Background:
These richly colored botanical prints are from Flora and
Sylva, a British horticultural journal published in monthly installments
from 1903 to 1905. The journal provided reviews of "new and rare plants, trees,
shrubs and fruits ... for lovers of garden, woodland, tree or flower". The
accompanying articles provided a history on the discovery and care for the plants
highlighted in the journal. Each botanical print is provided with a
copy of the accompanying article.
One of the principal contributors to Flora
and Sylva was William Robinson, a horticultural author and pioneer in
natural gardening practices.
