Background:

These prints of British Wild Flowers are from the second edition of a series illustrated by John Sowerby (1825-1879), grandson of one of the masters of English Botanical illustration  in the late 1700s to early 1800s - James Sowerby.  John's uncle, George, was a noted natural history artist whose focus was conchology.  Our Web site also features prints by both James Sowerby and George Sowerby.
