Background:
These delightful prints are from the First Edition of Flowers from Shakespeare's
Garden by Walter Crane (1845-1915). Crane, who established his reputation as an
illustrator for children's "toy books", did this series in the early 1900s in
which he portrays flowers referenced in Shakespearean plays in human form. It was
said of his work "Crane was first and foremost a designer. His designs were
simple and bold and used only bright, unmixed colors."
