Background:

These exquisite prints are from Parrots in Captivity, the definitive work by W. T. Greene published in England in the late 1800s.  The audience for this work, as stated by Greene, was "connoisseurs who wish to obtain an intimate acquaintance with these birds without going abroad".  The prints are based on illustrations by the respected British natural history artist Alexander Lydon, and are some of the finest we have seen of the Parrot family, both for their detail and brilliance of color.
