Background:
These unique prints are from a "Family Cabinet Atlas" published in 1831 in
England. The Atlas was intended to be small enough to put on a bookshelf (cabinet)
or taken with you when you traveled. Each map is provided with a legend listing the
names of cities on the map, and their location as identified by longitude and
latitude. The object of the Atlas, as stated in the Preface, was "to supply
with distinctness and accuracy the greatest quantity of geographical information in the
smallest possible compass".
