Background:

These hand-colored engravings are from An Exposition of English Insects, published in 1782.   The plates feature Dragonflies, Flies, Moths and other insects "accurately drawn and highly finished in colours from nature".  The text is by Moses Harris, who also was the illustrator and engraver for this series.
