Background:
Yes, there was a Mrs. Beeton (Mrs. Isabella Beeton to be exact). And in the late
1800s she authored one of the best known Victorian cookbooks presenting information for
the Housekeeper, Cook, Valet, Nurse on through the Governess on all matters relating to
running a successful (and presumably, happy) house. The color plates shown here
accompanied the recipes which were included in the book.
