Background:
These beautiful chromolithograph prints are from the Italian edition of Alfred Brehm's The
Life of the Animals. Originally published in Germany in the 1860s, the title of
the Italian edition was La Vita degli Animali. Brehm completed this work
with the assistance of two noted naturalists of the middle 1800s - Professor Taschenberg
and Oscar Schmidt.
This multi-volume series was published as a
reference on the animal kingdom for use in schools and by families. |
